The tube
A genuine IV-18 vacuum fluorescent display from the Soviet era — new old stock, never used. Eight digits inside one long glass envelope, in a jade green no LED panel reproduces. It is a VFD, not a Nixie: one tube, not six.
The case
Stacked black plates form ribbed sides, drawn together with long hex bolts. The glow reads harder against the black and the machine sinks into a dark desk. 15 × 4 × 9 cm — it fits between a keyboard and a monitor stand.
Living with it
Hours, minutes and seconds in 12 or 24-hour format, a calendar, and twenty transition effects as the digits change. Brightness follows the room: bright in daylight, gentle at night. A backup battery keeps the time through a power cut.
Assembled and tested before it ships — no kit, no soldering. Built by hand in Kyiv and covered for twelve months.
