Four Soviet Nixie tubes in solid walnut, cut square so the grain runs unbroken around the corners.

The tubes

Four genuine IN-14 Nixie tubes, made in Soviet factories more than thirty-five years ago and never used since. Each digit is a shaped wire cathode lit end to end — an orange nobody has managed to fake with an LED. They sit in sockets rather than solder, so when one eventually goes you pull it out and push the next one in, in about a minute, with no tools. One spare ships in the box, so the first replacement costs you nothing.

The case

Solid walnut finished with Danish oil. The edges are left square rather than rounded, which is what lets the grain carry straight round the corner instead of stopping at it.

Living with it

A motion sensor rests the tubes when the room is empty, which is what turns a few years of tube life into many. Temperature and humidity appear between the time, the backlight runs the full colour range or switches off entirely, and there is an alarm if you would rather wake to orange glow than to a phone screen. A backup battery keeps the time through a power cut.

Built by hand in Kyiv and covered for twelve months: if a tube fails inside that year, the replacement is free.

My order of the ash wood Nixie IN-14 tube clock arrived on time, very well packaged and works as advertised.
The 1-sheet instructions’ manual is clear enough and sufficient to fully use the clock’s features. The actual device looks better in reality than in the photos and it compliments well my office desk.
An important criterion for choosing the specific clock was the motion activated feature; this performs better than expected and I hope it will extend the life of the tubes into the years to come. The clock looks lovely when it is darker and the blue glow (selectable) from the clock’s base is a nice touch.

I am happy with this purchase and I can gladly recommend both the clock and the seller.

I ordered the clock quite a while ago but only gave it to my son today for his birthday. The clock is very nice! Wonderful craftmenship and after plugging the cable in, the clock immediately stated the correct time for our time zone. Overall, the clock has even more settings than just the time. It can also show the date and the temperature for example. I ordered the basic model because we like things simple and this clock will look very cool in our bookshelf! Thank you!
