Description
Six IN-8 tubes, and every one of them can show a real “5”. Most Nixie clocks are built on the IN-14, which has no five and shows an upside-down “2” in its place. Here the hours, minutes and seconds are all made of the right digits, and the seconds keep something glowing and changing on the desk all the time.
The tubes
New old stock from Soviet factories, never used. IN-8s are scarcer than IN-14s and are not made any more. Each one is tested before it goes into a clock. They sit in sockets, so a tube can be changed by hand, with no soldering.
The case
Olive ash veneer, laminated: thin layers of olive ash glued into a solid panel, with finger-jointed corners. The grain on your clock will differ from the photos.
Living with it
The two seconds tubes change with a slot-machine roll or a smooth fade, whichever you choose. A temperature display, a blue backlight that switches off, an alarm, 12 or 24-hour time, and a backup battery that keeps the time through a power cut. Between 01:00 and 04:00 the clock runs through every digit so the tubes wear evenly, and the backlight rests from 22:00 to 07:00.
As a gift
It arrives ready to use, packed box inside a box, with the plug for the recipient's country.
Built by hand in Ukraine and covered for twelve months: if a tube fails inside that year, the replacement is free.
