Description

A single IN-14 Nixie tube, tested and prepared to drop straight into one of our clocks.

What it is

Soviet new-old-stock, made before the factories stopped and never used. Not a loose tube out of a drawer: every one is checked on a live board first, and the legs are cut and aligned so it seats properly in a socket.

Fitting it

Out with the old, in with the new — about a minute, no soldering and no technician. It fits any socketed Nixie Star clock that uses IN-14 tubes.

Compatible clock models

This tube works in all current Nixie Star clocks built around the IN-14 format:

  • Nixie Star IN-14 Desktop Clock
  • Any third-party IN-14 clock with a standard 13-pin wire-ended socket

Not compatible with IN-12, IN-18, IN-8-2, or any other tube family — these have different pin counts and pinouts.

Pinout

From the factory label. Pins are counted clockwise from pin 1, which the indicator arrow marks, looking at the tube from the pin side.

  • Pin 1 — anode
  • Pin 2 — decimal point
  • Pins 3–11 — digits 1 to 9
  • Pin 12 — digit 0
  • Pin 13 — decimal point

Dimensions and ratings

  • Digit height: 18 mm
  • Bulb: about 19 mm across, 54.5 mm tall at most
  • Leads: 13 wire leads on an 11.5 mm circle, 0.5 mm thick at most, at least 35 mm long
  • Supply: 200 V or more; the discharge strikes at no more than 170 V
  • Current: 2.0–3.5 mA per digit, 0.3–0.7 mA for a decimal point
  • Viewing angle: ±30°

Bend and solder the leads no closer than 5 mm to the glass. After long storage the factory recommends running each digit at working current for a minute.

The original Soviet labels are in the tube-tester.com datasheet archive.
